Slip and Fall Photographs

Just like with a car accident, photographs can prove to be critical pieces of evidence in slip and fall cases. What is a slip and fall case? Well, it's exactly as it sounds. It's when you slip and fall due to a property owner's negligence. You'd be surprised how common these sorts of cases are. According to the
National Institute For Floor Safety slips and falls account for 1-million hospital emergency room visits a year. In addition to being the leading cause for Workers Compensation claims, slips and falls are also the leading cause of compensable injuries in the trucking industry.
The first thing you can do is try to avoid slips and falls. Being proactive is both helpful and important. The National Safety Council suggests the following tips for staying safe:
- Secure electrical and phone cords out of traffic areas
- Remove small throw rugs or use non-skid mats to keep them from slipping
- Remove tripping hazards (paper, boxes, toys, clothes, shoes) from stairs and walkways
- Periodically check the condition of walkways and steps, and repair damages immediately
- Never stand on a chair, table or other surface on wheels
- Clean up all spills immediately
However, sometimes despite our best efforts we just can't avoid all accidents. When this occurs, just like in a car accident, it is important to pull out that camera phone and take a few pictures. Here are a couple important things to take note of as well as photograph:
- The area of the fall
- The area surrounding the fall
- Note if there is any floor sign in place
- Take photos of any liquid that may be on your clothing as a result of the fall
When it comes to taking photographs you don't need to be an expert. Try to take as many pictures as possible and then get in touch with an attorney that can help!
