8 Car Pile-Up On I-75 Leaves 6 Charged with DUI

Early this morning (around 3:20 a.m.) in Clayton County an eight-car pile-up took place on Interstate 75. According to authorities, the massive accident started when one driver struck a pedestrian. The accident caused a closure of all southbound lanes starting at C.W. Grant Parkway.
The truly remarkable part of this story however is that of the eight cars involved in the accident, six of the drivers were charged with driving under the influence. This accident lines up pretty closely with a report released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Authority which states that the most likely time to be hit by a drunk driver is between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. The same organization noted that there are approximately 1.5 million people arrested each year for drinking and driving. This shocking number reveals that 1 in every 121 drivers will be arrested for driving under this influence this year.
The volume of individuals driving under the influence late at night should serve to underscore the importance of being proactive, especially during the holidays. Again, if you're going to drink, have a responsible good time, just don't get into a car and drive.
