Diabetes Test Strip Recall

Are you or a loved-one one of the 25.8 million people in this country that suffers from diabetes? Well here's an important recall notice worth paying attention to. This last week the FDA issue a notice warning that more than 68 million diabetes test strips are under recall after Nova Diabetes Care announced that the strips may report incorrect readings. Apparently the strips were contaminated with a chemical that alters correct readings. Unfortunately, these readings typically manifest in the form of abnormally high blood sugar readings. Of course a falsely high reading could potentially lead someone to incorrectly apply unneeded medicine resulting in significant problems.
According to 11alive.com, "The strips covered by the recall are marketed under the brand names Nova Max Blood Glucose Test Strips and Nova Max Plus Glucose Meter Kits. The recall affects certain lots of the strips distributed in the U.S., Canada, Chile, Peru, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and a half-dozen other countries."
Upon the discovery of this problem Nova Pharmaceuticals promptly issued a voluntary notice regarding the effected strips. More information regarding that information or what to do as a result of this recall can be found with the FDA's official recall notice.
